Qld: Govt bans new designer drugs

The Queensland government, in a pre-emptive strike, is banning three new designer drugs
yet to hit the streets in Australia.

Premier PETER BEATTIE says the drugs 2C-T-7, 2C-T-2 and 2C-E are illegal in Queensland
from today.

He says these hallucinogenic drugs aren't found in Queensland yet.

He says 2C-T-7, known on the streets as Beautiful, 7-Up, Blue Mystic and Tripstacy,
has killed several people in the United States.

The premier says police fear they could be peddled to young Queenslanders.

Mr BEATTIE also warns possession of these drugs could carry a penalty of between 15
and 20 years in jail and those caught trafficking face 20 years.
