NSW: Commissioners meet after two Sydney shooting deaths

Police commissioners from across the country will meet this week to discuss the proliferationof handguns after two shooting deaths in Sydney over the weekend.

Police say the two incidents could be related -- with the shooting death of a man ofAsian background in Sydney's Kings Cross possibly being a gang-related payback for anearlier killing at a karaoke bar.

The commissioners are expected to try to develop uniform laws relating to gun importation.

Senior New South Wales Deputy Commissioner KEN MORONEY will also meet Detective SuperintendentHELEN BEGG today to discuss staffing levels in her firearms trafficking unit.

Two men were killed and six others injured, one seriously, in three shootings acrossSydney in 36 hours.

Mr MORONEY says said there's been a proliferation of handguns in NSW.
