Japan opens its mobile market further.(Brief Article)

The government of Japan has said that it is planning to allow three more firms to provide cellphone services in the country. The companies will be asked to start the services by next year. According to sources, eAccess, which is an Internet service provider specializing in ADSL services, and Softbank, which provides ISP services and ADSL line products, may be permitted to provide mobile services in the country. The new licenses will be issued after a gap of 12 years, and the new entrants will compete with the companies already providing services in the market.

The companies currently active in the market are KDDI, NTT DoCoMo, and Vodafone KK. IP Mobile that provides communications services is also eager to enter the mobile phone market in the 2.0GHz band, while Softbank and eAccess want to use the 1.7GHz to provide mobile services.
