DOLE'S SAFETY AND HEALTH TRAINING COVERS '7 INDUSTRY BIG WINNERS'.

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), through its Occupational Safety and health Center (OSHC), yesterday announced a year-round schedule of training aimed at improving safety and health of the workforces in the country's key industries.

Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz said that various training on Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) are proceeding under the auspices of the OSHC, the nation's focal point for workplace safety training and upgrading.

The labor and employment chief said that the training covers the "seven big winners" in the country's industries which have been identified as key employment generators under the DOLE's Project JobsFit.

These "seven big winners" are as follows: agribusiness; business process outsourcing; creative industries; infrastructure; manufacturing and logistics; mining; and tourism, medical, travel, and retirement industry.

OSH training is being implemented in pursuit of the 22-point labor and employment agenda of President Benigno S. Aquino III, one of the goals of which is to strengthen job opportunities and enhance the welfare and protection of workers.

"By lining up a nationwide training on OSH, we seek to intensify our efforts at training workers and employers and equipping them with proper skills on workplace safety and health. In doing so, we also look forward to industries and companies responding cooperatively and positively to our efforts," Baldoz said, after OSHC Executive Director Dr. Ma. Teresita S. Cocueco apprised her about the OSHC's nationwide training events.

Cocueco reported that OSHC opened the year 2011 with its conduct of aConstruction Safety Training and a Basic Occupational Safety and Health (BOSH) Training for workers in Quezon City, and an Industrial Fire Safety and BOSH trainings in Cebu City last January.

For February, she said there shall be a BOSH Training in the Cordillera Administrative Region (Feb. 14-18); Work-related Diseases Orientation in Iloilo City (16-17); an OSH-Management System (OSH MS) Conference in Quezon City (Feb. 21-25); and a BOSH Training in Region 9 (28 Feb. to 3 March).

Earlier, the OSHC held a Trainers' Training on Occupational Safety and Health Network (TOT-OSHNET) in Regions 9-13 which were held in Davao City. Training on Labor Standards (LS) concerning HIV/AIDS, TB, Drugs, Reproduction was also held in Cebu City.

Dr. Cocueco also announced the following tentative schedules of other training:

For March: Fire Safety and BOSH Training for Creative Industries Plus in Quezon City (Mar 7-11); BOSH Training for Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) in Cebu City (Mar 14-18); Construction Safety Training in Cagayan de Oro City (Mar 14-18); and, TOT OSHNET in Regions 6 and 8 (Mar 21-25).

For April: Construction Safety Training in Bacolod City (April 4-8); BOSH Training in Ormoc City (April 11-15); BOSH Training for Schools in CDO (Mar 25-29); and, Construction Safety Training in Quezon City (Mar 25-29);

For May: BOSH Training in Region 2 (May 2-6); Construction Safety Training in Region 5 (May 9-13); BOSH Training for schools in Cebu City and Quezon City (May 16-20); TOT OSHNET for the National Capital Region (NCR) and Region 5 (May 23-27); and, Construction Safety Training in Tacloban City (May 25-29).

For June: Hearing and Emerging Health in Bacolod City (June 6-8); BOSH Training for the CSC in Quezon City (June 6-10); Construction Safety Training in Quezon City (June 13-17); and, BOSH Training for Hotels, Tourism, and Hospitals in Cebu City (June 20-24).
